Arguably the world's first infantry fighting vehicle, the Berliet VUDB was not only capable of transporting troops but allowing them to fight from within it, with multiple weapon ports from which to fire. Designed to help police France's north-African colonies in the 1930s, these remained in service at the start of the Second World War, serving in North Africa and in France. Belgium also fielded the Berliet VUDB during WWII.
